The company AB-Cultivars is a result of cooperation of two managers, mr. Henk Holtmaat, who is a plant refiner and mr. Arie Blom who is a breeder of perennial plants.
In 2002 mr. Arie Blom started crossing various ornamental plants in his back yard at home. After a couple of years thisin so much material of certain plants that at home there was not sufficient place any more. Meanwhile he had already decided to take up refining seriously and therefore it was necessary for him to look for a location for all his plant material.
Mr. Henk Holtmaat of Partnership Holtmaat was prepared to give him a chance and was ready to invest space and energy in a project that might turn out to be profitable only in the long run or possibly never. Mr. Holtmaat, who himself in the past started on a small plot of land with astilbes in his back yard, nowadays has a medium-sized nursery  with many sorts of perennials. As they are cooperating quite well Arie Blom and Henk Holtmaat decided to start AB-Cultivars together.

Between them they share so much knowledge, enthousiasm and commercial skill that the company is able to put high quality products on the market.  Continually  new products are tried that are additions to or improve the current commercial range. At the moment purposive crossing programs of various perennials are in progress as a result of which new cultivars that are fit for gardens and landscaping will be obtained. The scientific background and the experience of many years of Arie with various plants are og great importance to set and attain the desired targets. The experience as to growing and knowledge of assortments of mr. Henk are very well fitting with the support of the selection.

Important for AB-Cultivars is to be able to meet the wishes and expectations of both consumers and clients. This goal is to be obtained by good and honest information.

Any plant is taken into production only when it is clear that it really means an improvement to  the existing trade assortment. The photo shows that the left-hand plant (Echinacea purpurea ‘Pink Double Delight’ R ) is indeed a clear improvement as far as height and number of flowers is concerned, when compared with the right-hand plant.
